Rock‘n’ roll legend Tom Petty’s childhood home in Gainesville is up for sale and a self proclaimed “super fan” from California wants is buying it. The current owner Brandy Clark said she was in a Petty fan club Facebook page and mentioned she might sell the property and was quickly inundated with emails and interested buyers.
Within a week, Kevin Beauchamp got word of the possible sale and quickly made an offer of $175,000. According to the Gainesville Sun, he and put a down payment on the home and has a contract to buy it within 45 days.
Beauchamp says he’s working with other fans and the nonprofit Gainesville Music History Foundation to have the property labeled a historical landmark. Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe said the city is open to discussions and helping but will need to bring his plans in front of the commission for approval.
