Free Simulator Lets You Fly the SpaceX Crew Dragon Spaceship

(SpaceX)

Think you could handle flying a SpaceX mission? Elon Musk is going to give you a shot… kinda. A new online simulator website created by SpaceX puts you in control of the new Crew Dragon spacecraft on a mission to the International Space Station.

On May 27, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will take a Crew Dragon capsule up to the ISS, in the firms first crewed mission. NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken will be at the controls and see a system nearly identical to the new simulator.

May 27, as the date is an important date in history for NASA. It’s the first time NASA astronauts will be launched from US soil since 2011. Only three countries have launched people into orbit since 1961: Russia, the US and China. SpaceX will be the first private company to do so. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets have been successfully used to launch cargo to the space station in the company’s original Dragon capsules since 2012 but May 27 will be the first manned mission.
