Dee Gallant was out walking her dog last week in British Columbia when she realized they were being stalked by a mountain lion. Naturally, she did what any civilized person would do  she pulled out her phone and filmed the encounter.

First she tried what everyone tries when finding themselves being stalked by a cougar, she yelled at it. (Don’t believe me? Watch her video from YouTube below and then watch other cougar encounter videos. Everyone yells first.) Gallant told Victoria News, that it didn’t seem to care and stayed locked on her so she tried something else,

I quickly rifled through my iTunes and found Metallica Don’t Tread On Me. I thought it was the noisiest thing on my phone that would probably scare it. As soon as it started to play, he buggered off into the bush.

And, I promise I didn’t make this next part up. She told the reporter,

I guess he didn’t want to eat anything that leaves a Metallica taste in his mouth. She continues, I would love to contact them someday and tell James Hetfield that he saved my life.

Dee, we too would love for you to have the chance to tell Metallica their music saved your life. Literally.

Here’s the video she uploaded to YouTube showing the encounter up until she started playing the Metallica song that saved her (and her dog’s) life.
