Palm Coast, FL – Two men, 37-year-old Franklin Crawley and 37-year-old Christian Grasso, are in the Flagler County Jail. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Crawley’s grandmother on Monday (November 18) just after 1 p.m. She reported that her 2015 Buick Enclave was taken by Crawley without permission.

FCSO deputies, with assistance from the pilot of a Florida Highway Patrol airplane and Flagler County’s FireFlight helicopter, followed the stolen vehicle north on U.S. 1, west on County Road 13 and then on Sawgrass Road. Deputies attempted to deploy Stop Sticks but Crawley was able to avoid them.

Deputies positioned a patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated on Sawgrass Road near County Road 13 in an effort to block Crawley. Some FCSO deputies narrowly escaped injury after Crawley lost control while trying to avoid the patrol vehicle.

Crawley got back on northbound U.S. 1, with both the FHP plane and the FireFlight helicopter in pursuit. Deputies got a positive Stop Stick deployment in the area of U.S. 1 and Otis Stone Hunter Road in Bunnell, disabling the stolen vehicle’s tires. Crawley again lost control and crashed into the median on U.S. 1 and Whiteview Parkway.

Both Crawley and Grasso got out of the vehicle and ran to a home on Wood Ash Lane. Deputies surrounded the home and quickly found Grasso trying to hide in a construction trailer on the property. Crawley was found in the garage, drinking a soft drink. The homeowner does not know either of the men and said he wanted to press charges.

“I am thankful that our deputies were able to quickly apprehend these two and that no one was injured by their reckless actions,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is a guy who has no regard for the safety of others. I hope he enjoyed that soda because we only serve water at the Green Roof Inn. This is also a good reminder to always keep your garage doors closed even when you are home.”

Crawley is charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing and Eluding, Burglary, Petit Theft, and Resisting an Officer without Violence. He is being held on a $13,250.00 bond. Grasso is charged with Resisting an Officer without Violence and Burglary. He is being held on a $3,000.00 bond.

Crawley has a previous arrest history in Flagler County for Grand Theft, Attempted Burglary, Possession of Cathinones, Driving with a Suspended License, and Violation of Probation.

Grasso has a previous arrest history in Flagler County for Burglary, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Grand Theft, Sale of Methamphetamine, and more.
