Daytona Beach Decriminalizes Marijuana

Daytona Beach city commissioners have voted to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The decision to decriminalize marijuana was made by the city commission during last night’s (April 17th) meeting, without much comment by city leaders during the meeting. Commissioners agreed to change the city code so that police cannot send anyone with 20 grams of marijuana or less to jail as well as any sort of related drug paraphernalia. The ordinance creates a citation process for people caught with 20 grams or less. City leaders said the fines would not exceed $500.
