Can Coffee Help You Lose Weight?

Coffee may just be a miracle elixir – wakes you up, prevents murder, and now (potentially) could help you lose weight!

According to a new study out of England, drinking coffee may actually help burn off fat.

Researchers discovered that coffee helps stimulate “brown fat” in the body. Brown fat was originally thought to only be found in hibernating mammals, and babies, but they recently discovered that it is present, in small amounts, in adult humans. The interesting thing is that when it heats up, it helps burn calories.

In the study, when participants drank coffee, it increased the amount of brown fat in their bodies. Whereas, in the control portion of the study, caffeine dissolved in water had no effect on brown fat.

This probably doesn’t mean that drinking two dozen cups of coffee a day will turn you into a supermodel, especially since they’re saying more research is needed. But I may definitely start drinking coffee right before working out. See what happens.
